Halvor Nordgaarden was born “Halvor Gjermundsen Nordgaarden” on January 25, 1840 at Seljord, Norway. He came to America with his parents and a brother,Tollef, on the “Lorena”, which sailed from Havre, France and arrived in New York on July 17, 1843. They moved to Muskego, Racine County, Wisconsin and then in 1849, they moved to Brown Township, Manistee County, Michigan.
Halvor Nordgaarden joined the MI 15th Infantry. Nothing else is known about his service. After the war on September 29, 1867, he was married in Milwaukee, Wisonsin to Margaret Wilson (?-1924). They had ten children before his death on April 23, 1887.
