Andrew Michelson joined the WI 15th Infantry, Company D. The men of the company called themselves the “Norway Wolf Hunters.” They were also known as the “Waupun Company” because so many of its members were from Waupun.

The army listed Michelson as living in Lewistown, Columbia County, WI, age 25, and unmarried. He enlisted for three years on November 25, 1861 at Portage City, WI, and mustered at Madison, WI on December 8, 1861 as a Private (Menig). He was assigned as company wagon master on February 12, 1862. On December 26, 1862, he was left behind with the baggage train in Nashville. He was with the Brigade on military police duty on June 16 and 20, 1863. On November 28, 1863, he was sick in Chattanooga, TN. Michelson mustered out with Company D on February 13, 1865 at Chattanooga.  In 1890, he was living in Homedahl, Faribault County, MN.
