Lever M. Johnson was born in Norway. He is said to have been a son of John S. Mark, who served in the WI 15th Infantry. under the name “Johannes Severson”. Lever joined the reorganized IA 7th Cavalry. The army listed him as living in Worth County and 22 years old. He enlisted on October 15, 1864, and mustered on October 15, 1864 as a Private (Menig). He was a recruit and not assigned to a company. He died of disease on April 30, 1865 at Fort Cottonwood, NE.
