Ole Anderson was born on Amsrud Farm, Sondre Land, Norway in June 1844. He immigrated in 1852. He joined the WI 15th Infantry, Company I. The men of the company called themselves the “Scandinavian Mountaineers” but were also known as the “Waupaca Company” because so many of them were living in that Wisconsin county when they enlisted.

The army listed Anderson as living in Scandinavia, Waupaca County, WI, age 19, and unmarried. He enlisted for three years on January 2, 1862 at La Crosse, WI, and mustered at Madison, WI on January 18, 1862 as a Private (Menig). He was with the provisions transport from Stevenson, AL in September and October 1863. He was sick in Division Hospital in 1864. Anderson mustered out with the company at Chattanooga, TN on February 10, 1865.

After the war, Anderson married Olena and they lived in Granite Falls, Chippewa County, MN. Together, they had at least 12 children: Melissa and Ina (1869), Malvin (1872), Anne (1875), Albert (1876), Hattie (1878), Oscar (1880), Nellie (1882), Lida (1884), Willie (1886), Lewis (1888), and Alba (1890). Olena died in 1916 and Ole in 1927. In 1920, Ole was living as a widow with his son Oscar.
