Paul Mikkelson Paulson enlisted with the 15th WI in Company K on December 10, 1861 in Worth County, IA. The men of the company called themselves Clausen’s Guards in honor of the 15th’s first Chaplain, Claus L. Clausen. Paulson was mustered into Federal service as a Private (Menig) for a 3-year term of service at Camp Randall near Madison, Dane County, WI. At the time he was listed as being a 19 year old unmarried farmer with blue eyes, red hair, fair skin, and 5 feet 6 inches tall.
