Ole C. Paulson was born “Ole Christenson Vestrom” on December 9, 1845. He immigrated in 1853. He joined B Company of the WI 17th Infantry and the 15th Infantry. The army listed him as living in Vermont, Dane County, WI and age 18. He enrolled for one year on October 10, 1864 at Janesville, WI, and mustered there the same day as a Private (Menig). He was “Improperly assigned, never reported to Co. B”. He was also reportedly a prisoner of war.
After the war, Paulson married Ragnhild in 1868. She immigrated in 1866. They had five children, including Carrie Lee (1868), Alma Hoff (1878), Ida Sterud (1882), Oscar (1884), and Alfred (1886). In 1920, they were living in Volga, Brookings County, SD.
