Halvor Ferdinand Museus was born in Larvik parish, Vestfold, Norway. He came to WI with his parents and two brothers, settling in the Ixonia, Jefferson County area. He and his father, Hans,  joined the WI 15th Infantry, Company D. The men of the company called themselves the “Norway Wolf Hunters.”  They were also known as the “Waupun Company” because so many of its members were from Waupun.

The army listed Museus in Oconomowoc, Waukesha County, WI, age 19, and unmarried. He enlisted for three years on January 8, 1862, at Oconomowoc, and mustered at Madison, WI, on January 11, 1862, as a Private (Menig). He was assigned as an orderly in a hospital at Murfreesboro, TN, on October 20, 1863. He was sick in Louisville, KY, and at Jefferson, IN, in October 1863. He was sick again and in hospital at Nashville, TN, on November 18, 1863, and in June 15, 1864. Museus mustered out with Company D on February 13, 1865, at Chattanooga, TN.

After the war, Halvor moved to Rush River Township, St. Croix County, WI, where he married and had children. He died there and is buried in the Peace Lutheran Cemetery.
