Christopher H. Lee was born on December 8, 1836 in Sør-Aurdal, Oppland, Norway. His parents were Helge Olsen and Ingri Arnesdatter Lee. He immigrated in 1857. In 1860, he was going by the name Christopher Helgason and living in York, Green County, WI. The other members of his household included his mother, brother Ole, and sisters Margaret, Sonevia, and Antone. Christopher was working as a laborer.
Lee joined the WI 15th Infantry, Company E. The army listed him as living in York, Green County, WI, age 25, and unmarried. He enlisted for three years on December 5, 1861 in Green County, and mustered on December 10, 1861 at Madison, WI as a Private (Menig). Lee was seriously wounded in the Battle at Stones River near Murfreesboro, TN on December 30, 1862. Hee died in hospital near Murfreesboro, TN on January 17, 1863 from wounds received in that battle. He is buried in an unmarked grave in Stones River Cemetery.
