Lars Larson was born in Voss, Norway. He joined the WI 15th Infantry, Company G as a Private (Menig) on January 4, 1862. He mustered at Madison, WI. The men of the company called themselves the “Rock River Rangers.” The army listed him as living in Martell, Pierce County, WI, aged 41, and married. He was discharged for a disability due to disease at Mississippi Island No. 10 on May 13, 1862. In 1876, a minor named Judson Warner filed a pension in Larson’s name.
