Ole Kittilson joined the WI 15th Infantry, Company D. The men of the company called themselves the “Norway Wolf Hunters.” They were also known as the “Waupun Company” because so many of its members were from that WI county. The army listed him as living in Chicago, IL, age 38, and unmarried. Kittilson enlisted for three years on February 12, 1862 at Madison, and mustered there the next day as a Private (Menig). He was assigned to Company A at Mississippi River Island No. 10 in April 1862. Then, he was assigned to the provision transport from Stevenson on October 13, 1863. On November 28, 1863, he was sick in Chattanooga, TN and then sick in the camp hospital on July 2, 1864. He mustered out with the company on February 13, 1865 at Chattanooga. He is on the Roll of Honor, 2nd Brigade, 1st Division, 20th Army Corps.
