John Jorgenson joined the WI 15th Infantry, Company E. The men of the company called themselves “Odin’s Rifles.” The army listed him as living in Perry, Dane County, WI, age 26, and unmarried. He enlisted for three years on January 18, 1862 in Dane County, and mustered on January 27, 1862 at Madison, WI as a Private (Menig). He was sick at Nashville, TN on November 26, 1862. Jorgenson was also sick in Nashville on December 26, 1862. He was sent to Convalescent Camp on September 15, 1863 at Stevenson, AL. On February 24, 1864, he was sick at Knoxville, TN. He was wounded in his hand in the Battle at Kenesaw Mountain, GA on June 21, 1864 and sent to a hospital. He mustered out with Company E on December 20, 1864 at Chattanooga, TN. In 1880, his mother, Mary, filed a pension in his name.
