The army listed Fosse as living in Deerfield, Dane County, WI, farmer, unmarried, and age 26. He had blue eyes, dark hair, fair complexion, and stood 5’8”. He enlisted for three years on October 17, 1861, at Cambridge, WI, and mustered at Madison, WI, on February 13, 1862, as a Corporal (Korporal). He was killed in the Battle of Stones River, TN, on December 31, 1862. He was buried in the National Cemetery there; section C, grave 36.
