George Fogg was born in May 1845 in England. He joined the WI 15th Infantry, Company C. The men of the company called themselves the “Norway Bear Hunters,” but they were also known as the Color Company because the regimental Color Guard was attached to their company.

The army listed Fogg as living in Milwaukee, Milwaukee County, WI, age 17, and unmarried. He enlisted for three years on November 25, 1861 at Milwaukee, and mustered on December 2, 1861 at Madison, WI as a Company musician. He was sick in Chattanooga, TN on November 28, 1862. He mustered out with C Company on January 1, 1865 at Chattanooga, TN.

After the war, he married Josephine (Josie) Gnitz on October 7, 1867 in Milwaukee, WI. Josephine was born in September 1845 in WI. Her parents were born in Germany. Together, George and Josephine had 3 children, but only 1 daughter was living by 1900. Her named was Grace Becket (married name), born in 1875 in WI. In 1900 and 1910, they were living in Chicago, IL.
