Knud Olsen Dokken was born in 1843 at Valdres, Norway, the son of Ole L. Fosgaard and Margit K. Flaaten. He came to America in 1857. He joined the WI 15th Infantry, Company C. The men of the company called themselves the “Norway Bear Hunters,” but they were also known as the Color Company because the regimental Color Guard was attached to their company.
The army listed Dokken as living in Perry Township, Dane County, WI, age 18, and unmarried. He enlisted for three years on January 23, 1862 in Dane County, and mustered at Madison, WI on February 13, 1862 as a Private (Menig). He died of typhoid fever in the hospital at Mississippi River Island No. 10 on May 7, 1862. He was buried in Mississippi River National Cemetery at Memphis, TN. He was a brother to Private Lars O. Dokken.
