He enlisted for three years on November 30, 1861 at Waterford, WI, and mustered on December 2, 1861 at Madison, WI as a Private (Menig). He was missing from Madison on March 2, 1862 and War Department had not heard from him after that. However, the WI Marriage Records list Robert and his wife, Carrie, as being present at the first and second marriages of their son, William. The first marriage was on July 21, 1884 between William and Clara Allen in Chilton, Calumet County, WI. The second marriage was between William and Addie on March 31, 1907.
