Lars Anderson joined the WI 15th Infantry, Company G. The men of the company called themselves the “Rock River Rangers.”
The army listed Anderson as living in East Troy, Cast Iron, Walworth County, WI, age 18, and a farmer. He had blue eyes, light hair, light complexion, and stood 5’6”. He enlisted for three years as a substitute for J. H. Johnson on January 16, 1864 at Madison, WI, and mustered there on February 17, 1864 as a Private (Menig). He joined G Company at Strawberry Plains on March 31, 1864. He was wounded in his hand at New Hope Church, GA on May 27, 1864. He transferred to Company H at Whiteside, TN; temporarily assigned to the 24th Infantry on February 13, 1865; and then transferred to I Company of the 13th on June 10, 1865.
