James Young joined the WI 15th Infantry, Company G at age 21. The men of the company called themselves the “Rock River Rangers.” His residence is not shown. Young enlisted for three years on July 15, 1863 at Mississippi River Island No. 10. He mustered at Chattanooga, TN on November 23, 1863. He was a recruit and enlisted as a Private (Menig). He transferred to Company H at Whiteside, TN on January 27, 1865. He transferred to I Company of the WI 13th Infantry Regiment on June 10, 1865.
