John P. Stromer  was born “Johan P. Strømer” in Sweden. He joined the WI 15th Infantry, Company K. The company called itself “Clausen’s Guards” in honor of the 15th’s first Chaplain, Claus L. Clausen. Most of the company was recruited from Scandinavian communities in MN and IA, with the rest from WI. His residence was not shown.

Stromer was commissioned Second Lieutenant (Løytnant) on November 28, 1862 and mustered at Chicago, IL on December 4, 1862 at age 45. He resigned on May 4, 1863 and the resignation was accepted by General Rosecrans on the same day. Special field order number 121 from the Cumberland Army’s Headquarters gave disability as the reason the resignation was accepted.
