Amund Pederson was born in Svatsum parish, Gausdal, Oppland fylke and came to America with his parents and siblings in 1849. They settled first in Jefferson County, WI, and moved about 1854 to the town of Martell, Pierce County, WI. Pederson joined the WI 15th Infantry, Company G. The men of the company called themselves the “Rock River Rangers.”
The army listed him as living in Martell, Pierce County, WI, age 19, and unmarried. He enlisted for three years on November 11, 1861, at Martell, and mustered at Madison, WI, on December 13, 1861, as a Private (Menig). He was with the provision transport from Stevenson, AL, in October 1863. On January 13, 1865, he mustered out with Company G at Chattanooga, TN.
He returned to Martell and married Karen Olsdatter Jahr. They had six children: Peder Oscar (1870-1943), Melvin Edvard/Eddy (1871-1949), Lotten Bernhard/Lawton (1873-1947), Gunhild Maria (1875-1944), Alfred Anton (1877-1877), and Kora Eline (1884-1888). Amund died November 9, 1912 and was buried in Our Saviors Lutheran Cemetery, Beldenville, Pierce Co, WI.
