Andrew Peterson joined the WI 15th Infantry, Company E. The men of the company called themselves “Odin’s Rifles.”
The army listed him as living in Fayette, Lafayette County, WI, age 22, and unmarried. He enlisted for three years on December 26, 1861, in Lafayette County and mustered on January 6, 1862, at Madison, WI, as a Private (Menig). He was promoted to Corporal (Korporal) on July 1, 1862. On October 6, 1862, he was left sick in hospital at Bardstown, KY, and died there on November 6, 1862, of pneumonia. Peterson was buried in National Cemetery at Lebanon, Marion County, KY, section B, grave 53. His mother, Mary Peterson, filed a pension March 31, 1879.
