Sever Johnson was born on March 22, 1825 in Vikers parish, Aadalen, Norway. He was married to Inger Olsen Hareviren in 1848 (or 1850). He came to US in 1850 or 1852.

 Johnson joined the IA 15th Infantry. The army listed him as living in Hartland, IA and aged 44. He was drafted, enrolled, and mustered on October 15, 1864 as a Private (Menig). He mustered out on July 24, 1865 in Louisville, KY.

 After the war he became Sever J. Haugrud, according to Worth County WPA records. He lived at Silver Lake Township in Worth County. Haugrud’s daughter called herself Isabel Johnson. He died on December 26, 1920 and was buried in Silver Lake Cemetery, Worth County.
