Anders Torgerson joined the WI 15th Infantry, Company G. The army listed him as living in Madison, Dane County, WI, age 18, and unmarried. He enlisted for three years on January 14, 1862 at Madison. He was not mustered by reason of desertion, but restored to duty without trial as a Private (Menig). On August 13, 1863, he disappeared from Mississippi River Island No. 10 , but was back in the company again at Casseville on May 22, 1864 and was sent to hospital. “In accordance with Special Order Number 61 from the 3rd Division, Fourth Army Corps, he was returned to his unit without judgment other than being stripped of his pay andcompensation up until 1 May 1864,” according to Det Femtende Regiment, Wisconsin Frivillage. He transferred to Company H at Whiteside, TN on January 1, 1865 and then assigned temporarily to the WI 24th Infantry. He transferred to I Company of the WI 13th on June 10, 1865.
