New Bygdebøker Added to Collection

Thanks to the generosity of member William Helgeson, and his Helgeson Acquisitions Fund, over two hundred bygdebøker have recently been added to the Naeseth Library collection.

These books, many purchased during the recent study trip to Norway, greatly enhance our growing collection of Norwegian local history.

Bygdebøker are a genre of Norwegian local history literature containing information about rural districts, and the people who lived within those districts. It has long been thought the combined collection of bygdebøker at the NAGC & NL and those held at the University of Wisconsin – Memorial Library, in Madison, Wisconsin, provide the most extensive collection in such close proximity to each other outside of Norway.
