Vesterheim Norwegian-American Museum  Located in Decorah, Iowa, this museum is one of the best collections of its kind.

•    Norwegian-American Historical Association  Located in Northfield, Minnesota, the NAHA archives has an extensive manuscript collection, including letters, diaries, journals and ledgers, newspaper clippings, obituaries, congregational records, family and local histories, photographs, and other resources related to Norwegians in America.

Digital Archives of Norway  A public service of the National Archives of Norway and the State Archive in Bergen. Use this site to search Norwegian census, emigration records and images of Norwegian church records.

Historielag.org  Links to a number of Norwegian local historical societies.

Norway Heritage  Especially useful for finding ships leaving from Norway during the period 1825-1925.

•  DIS Norge  DIS-Norway is Norway's largest association for genealogists, with over 9,000 members.  The Association's purpose is to create a national forum for genealogy and personal history in which computing and the Internet is used as an aid, spread knowledge about this and also encourage genealogical research in Norway.

•    Slekt & Historie  Has wonderful information about Norwegian naming patterns, administrative units, local histories, immigration and more.

EmiWeb  Swedish website with access by subscription to partner organization databases.  EmiWeb is the first web based archive of its kind covering migration to and from Scandinavia.

www.bt.no/skatt  Searchable Norwegian tax list for the year 2009.

Oluf Rygh: Norwegian Farm Names  Norwegian farm names, based on O. Rygh's index of Norwegian farm names from the early 1900's.  Search on a farm name and find the geographic location and parish.

Vesterheim Civil War Page  Searchable database for Norwegians in the Civil War.

Family Search  A public service of the LDS Church available at no cost. Has many useful databases, some of which are submitted by individuals and thus may be inaccurate, some are transcriptions, such as the 1880 census.

Ancestry  A well known genealogy site available by subscription.  The best source to view the 1930 census.

Rootsweb  Rootsweb is the premier non-profit genealogical website in America.  Links to the Tombstone Project and USGENWEB, on which volunteers maintain websites about each county in America with information about the county and cemetery listings, biographies, vital records, and other information.  Links to Norwegian genealogy newsgroups and mailing lists.

Cyndi's List  Cyndi's List of Genealogy Sites is the leading genealogy starting point for Internet sites on every genealogical topic.
•    Ellis Island Records  Has a searchable database of over 22 million passengers and crew members arriving through the Port of New York between 1892 and 1924.

•    U.S. Vital Records  Find out how to acquire vital records (birth, death, marriage) from each state.

Norwegian Emigration Center.  Located in Stavanger, Norway.

Norwegian Emigrant Museum.  Located near Hamar, Norway.
•    Fylkesarkivet in Sogn og Fjordane.  Genealogical databases from Sogn og Fjordane, Norway. Click on Databasetenester.

Nordmanns Forbundet (Norse Federation).  International organization promoting Norway and Norwegian culture.

Mission Archives, School of Mission and Theology, Stavanger, Norway.  A unique collection related to the history of Christian mission, founded in 1842. History of Norwegian missionaries living and working abroad.

Norwegian National Library's Promise of America.  An interactive website with materials from the Norwegian Emigrant Museum and National Library of Norway.

Land Office records of the Bureau of Land Management.  Find out if your ancestors bought land in the U.S. from the government.  Scanned images of documents are available.
