Valdres Samband Stevne

June 18, 2015 - June 20, 2015

The Valdres Samband was organized in 1899. The Samband sponsors a “stevne” or yearly gathering in June of each year.  It allows members to come together to use the extensive collection of genealogical resources maintained by the Samband, attend classes and learn more about the Valdres Valley’s history, culture, and the lives of the immigrants in America,  and enjoy the camaraderie of new friends – and newly discovered cousins.

In 2015, Valdres will be joined by the Vestland and Hallingdal lags. The multi-lag stevne will be held at the Best Western Kelly Inn in St. Cloud, Minnesota from June 18-20, 2015.

Testimonials

“Dear Jerry, We had a most wonderful trip to Norway. In Rosendal, we talked with a woman named Linda at the Municipal Building who had received my letter. She used the bygdebok to advise us and also gave us the name & address of a man located on the other side of the fjord-in the area our family is from. We were fortunate that he was home and his sister/cousin (can't remember) was visiting & she spoke English. He and his late wife had preserved a number of buildings from the old days that were filled with artifacts and he was happy to show us around. Thank you so much for your help. You opened our eyes to much information, and to how to use the bygdebok to learn more.”

- Sue (Virginia)
