St. Olaf Folk School Summer Camp

July 5, 2015 - July 11, 2015

This is a new camp available for youth from ages 12 to 15. It will be a residential camp held from July 5-11, 2015 on the St. Olaf campus in Northfield, Minnesota.

Folk School will explore Nordic traditions and function with a folk school philosophy on campus with strong ties to the Nordic roots in the institution’s foundation. Founded by Norwegian immigrants at the end of the 19th century, St. Olaf College celebrates its Nordic connections and cultural history. Campers will experience these connections by learning historical and cultural facts about the way of life for people in Nordic countries through crafts, history lessons, skill and technique development, and many activities throughout the week.

Testimonials

“I use this (Naeseth) Library for most of my Norwegian research.  I have found records from Norway and from some of the first Norwegian churches in Portage/Waupaca Counties that I could not find elsewhere.  Most of the materials are in Norwegian, which can cause some frustration if you do not have a basic knowledge of the language.  The staff is very knowledgeable and understands the difficulties of researching in a foreign language.  I have had many pleasant experiences working with the staff.I have been a member of this organization (NAGC & NL) for a number of years and have participated in the continuing educational opportunities offered.  The newsletter, received twice a year, reviews activities of the Center and announces new holdings and classes. If you are looking for Norwegian ancestors, this is an excellent research facility.”
