Oliver Oleson joined the WI 15th Infantry, Company B as a Private (Menig). The men of the company called themselves the “Wergeland Guards” in honor of Henrik Wergeland, the famous Norwegian writer and poet.
Oleson died of diarrhea on July 11, 1864 at Andersonville Prison. He was buried in grave 3162.
