Ole Lindboe joined the WI 15th Infantry, Company E. The men of the company called themselves “Odin’s Rifles.” The army listed him as living in York, Green County, WI, born in Norway, age 23, and unmarried. He had blue eyes, dark hair, light complexion, and stood 5’8”. He enlisted for three years on October 24, 1861 in Iowa County, WI. He mustered on December 8, 1861 at Madison, WI as a Private (Menig). He was wounded on December 31, 1862 at Stones River near Murfreesboro, TN; sent to a hospital in Nashville; moved to a hospital at New Albany, IN; and finally, on August 17, 1863, to the General Hospital at Winchester, TN. Lindboe transferred to Invalid Corps (later renamed the Veteran Reserve Corps) on September 1, 1863, but by the time that order arrived, he was already dead in Hospital No. 11, Nashville of hemorrhaging of the bowels. He had died on August 27, 1863. He is buried in the Nashville National Cemetery, section D, grave 21.
