Knud Knudsen joined the WI 15th Infantry, Company G. The men of the company called themselves the “Rock River Rangers.” The army listed him as living in Avon, Rock County, WI, age 25, and unmarried. He enlisted for three years on October 16, 1861 at Beloit, WI, and mustered at Madison, WI on December 13, 1861 as a Private (Menig). Knudsen was sick in Columbus, KY on August 22, 1862. He was discharged from the service there for disability due to disease on October 20, 1862.
