Knud Iverson was born at the Nedre Aure farm in Voss, Hordaland fylke on December 4, 1822. His parents were Iver Storksen and Eli Gulliksdtr. He married Dordei (Dorthea) Knutsdatter Rokne on June 3, 1846. They had at least 8 children, including Iver (1847) and Elie (1848). After immigrating to the U.S., his children continued to use their patronymic and farm name, Knudsen Lee.
He joined the WI 15th Infantry, Company F. The men of his company called themselves “KK’s Protectors” in honor of the 15th’s first Lieutenant Colonel, Kiler K. Jones. “F” was also known as the Valdres Company because a large number of its members hailed from the Valdres region of Norway.
The army listed Iverson as living in Dane County, WI, married, and age 39. He enlisted for three years on January 18, 1862 at Dane County, and mustered at Madison, WI on January 27, 1862 as a Private (Menig). He was assigned as a guard with the commissary supply train for a while in 1862. He was killed at Stones River, TN on December 31, 1862. Dorthea filed a pension as his widow in 1905.
