Christoffer Hoff was born on May 28, 1825 in Norway. He immigrated with his wife Wilhelmina Anne Marie (Mena) Testman Hoff in about 1850. They came to Dane County, WI. They had several children, including: Hans (1845), Martin (1849), Christian (1847), Carl (1850), Andreas (1853), and Christena (1854). Hoff worked as a farmer.

He joined the WI 15th Infantry, Company B. The men of the company called themselves the “Wergeland Guards” in honor of Henrik Wergeland, the famous Norwegian writer and poet.

The army listed Hoff as living in Christiana, Dane County, WI, age 39, and married. He enlisted for three years on November 10, 1861 at Madison, WI, and mustered there on November 16, 1861 as a Private (Menig). He was assigned to the Pioneer Corps in November 1862. He was mustered out with the company on December 1, 1864 at Chattanooga, TN.

After the war, he returned to Christiana, Dane County, WI. After 1880, Hoff and his wife relocated to NE. He died on November 24, 1881. He was buried in Cuming County, NE, at Norwegian Cemetery, lot 32.
