Andrew Erickson was born in Norway. He joined the WI 15th Infantry, Company I. The men of the company called themselves the “Scandinavian Mountaineers” but were also known as the “Waupaca Company” because so many of them were living in that Wisconsin county when they enlisted. The army listed Erickson as living in Madison, Dane County, WI, age 22. a farmer, and unmarried. He had blue eyes, dark hair, fair complexion, and stood 5’8”. He enlisted for three years on March 14, 1862 at Madison, and mustered there the same day as a Private (Menig). He transferred here from Company C on June 11, 1865. He mustered out on May 21, 1865 at Madison, WI.
