Christen O. Dahle joined the WI 15th Infantry, Company B. The men of the company called themselves the “Wergeland Guards” in honor of Henrik Wergeland, the famous Norwegian writer and poet.

The army listed Dahle as living in McFarland, Dane County, WI, age 25, and unmarried. He enlisted for three years on December 4, 1861 at Madison, WI, and mustered there on December 13, 1861 as a Private (Menig). He died of dysentery in a hospital in Murfreesboro, TN on July 2, 1863. He was buried in the National Cemetery at Stones River, TN; section D, grave 409.
