Ole E. Dahl was born in Norway. He joined the WI 15th Infantry, Company E. The men of the company called themselves “Odin’s Rifles.”
The army listed Dahl as living in Springdale, Dane County, a tailor, age 23, and unmarried. He had blue eyes, light hair, light complexion, and stood 5’8”. He enlisted for three years on January 4, 1862 at Camp Randall, Madison, WI, and mustered there on January 6, 1862 as a Private (Menig). He was then promoted to Sergeant (Sersjant) and then Quartermaster Sergeant of Company H. He died of nerve fever in hospital at Mississippi River Island No. 10 on April 30, 1862. He was buried in Mississippi River Cemetery near Memphis, TN.
