Frants Christophersen Lieshagen was born in 1807 in Norway to Christopher Hansen. He married Anne Katrine Olsdatter Sandsbraaten on April 23, 1829 in Hurdal, Akershus, Norway. At age 54, they emigrated to the U. S. in 1861 and their daughter, Fredrikke, age 21.

Under the name Frank Christopherson, he joined the WI 15th Infantry, Company H. The men of the company called themselves "Heg's Rifles" in honor of the 15th commander, Colonel Hans C. Heg. They were also known as the "Voss Company" because of a large number of them who were from the Voss region of Norway.

The army listed Christopherson as living in Clermont, Fayette County, IA, age 54, and married. He enlisted for three years on January 10, 1862 at La Crosse, WI, and mustered at Madison, WI on February 13, 1862 as a Private (Menig). He died of disease on the river ship "Graham" near Mississippi River Island No. 10 on April 9, 1862. He was buried in Mississippi River National Cemetery, Memphis, TN.
