Oluf Andreason was born December 24, 1841 in Norway to Andreas and Bertha Anderson. He joined the WI 15th Infantry, Company I. The men of his company called themselves the “Scandinavian Mountaineers” but were also known as the “Waupaca Company” because so many of them were living in that WI county when they enlisted.
The army listed Andreason as living in Mt. Morris, Waushara County, WI, age 21, and unmarried. He enlisted for three years on October 29, 1861 at Mt. Morris, and mustered at Madison, WI on November 16, 1861 as a Private (Menig). He became unfit for service and was discharged from the service at Mississippi River Island No. 10 on January 30, 1863. He re-enlisted in Madison, WI on January 9, 1864 and mustered as a veteran on February 17, 1864. He joined I Company at Strawberry Plains, VA on March 31, 1864. He was wounded in a hand at Allatoona Mountains, GA on June 6, 1864. He was sent to a hospital, then to Madison, WI. He was then transferred to the Veteran Reserve Corps on December 20, 1864.
After the war, he married Anna Maria Nielson on December 14, 1872. She was born in Prussia in 1851. Her parents were Neils and Maria Neilson. In 1880, Oluf and Anna were living in Mount Morris, WI and he was a farmer. He died on September 1, 1881. He was buried in Mount Morris Holden Lutheran Cemetery, Mt. Morris, WI.
