The men of the company called themselves “KK’s Protectors” in honor of the 15th’s first Lieutenant Colonel, Kiler K. Jones. “F” was also known as the Valdres Company because a large number of its members hailed from the Valdres region of Norway.

The army listed Anderson as living in Decorah, Winneshiek County, IA, age 17, and unmarried. He enlisted for three years on December 25, 1861, at Decorah, and mustered at Madison, WI, on December 29, 1861, as a Private (Menig). He was sick in Cowan, TN, on August 17, 1863, and sick in Chattanooga, TN, on November 28, 1863. Anderson transferred to 68th IN on January 31, 1864, but returned on April 1, 1864. He was seriously wounded in the left shoulder at Kenesaw Mountain, GA, on June 22, 1864. He was taken to Harvey Hospital, Madison, WI. He mustered out from Harvey hospital in Madison on December 20, 1864, upon the expiration of term of service.

After the war, he moved back to Iowa and lived under the name Einer Anderson Groves. He married Anne Olsdatter Groth on April 20, 1866, in Little Iowa Norsk-Evangelisk Lutherske Menighed, Winneshiek, IA. Anne lived 1847 to 1913. They had at least two children: Emma and Mary.
