Job Tjerans joined the WI 15th infantry, Company E as a Private (Menig). The men of the company called themselves “Odin’s Rifles.”
The army listed him as living in Primrose, Dane County, WI, a farmer, age 19, and unmarried. He had blue eyes, blond hair, fair complexion, and stood 5’6”. He enlisted for three years on November 1, 1861 at Dane County, and mustered on December 8, 1861 at Madison, WI as a Private (Menig).
Tjerans was left sick at Bird’s Point, MO on March 14, 1862 and moved to the hospital at Mound City, IL on March 18, 1862. On June 3, 1862, he was listed as still at Mound City. Later, he was reported to be absent without leave. He was found to be sick at Bowling Green, KY on November 4, 1862. He was then sent to General Field Hospital near Murfreesboro, TN on March 20, 1863. He died there of chronic diarrhea on May 15, 1863. He was buried in the National Cemetery at Stone’s River, TN; section J, grave 428.
