Ole Petersen, Jr. joined the WI 15th Infantry, Company C. The men of the company called themselves the “Norway Bear Hunters,” but they were also known as the Color Company because the regimental Color Guard was attached to their company.

 The army listed him as living in Racine, Racine County, WI, age 21, and unmarried. He enlisted for three years on October 14, 1861 at Milwaukee, WI, and mustered at Madison, WI on December 2, 1861 as a Private (Menig). Peterson was sick in Bowling Green, KY on September 17, 1862. On March 16, 1863, he was in the hospital at Murfreesboro, TN and died there of disease on April 19, 1863. He was buried in National Cemetery at Stones River, TN; section N, grave 91.
