The army listed him as living in Portage City, Columbia County, WI, age 18, and unmarried. He enlisted for three years on November 27, 1861 at Portage City, and mustered at Madison, WI on December 8, 1861 as a Private (Menig). Pederson was sick in the hospital at Mound City, IL on April 6, 1862. On June 3, 1862, he was listed as being sick and on furlough. He died while at his home in Portage City on June 10, 1862. The company clerk wrote on the muster roll that there had been no official notice of Pederson’s death, but that a private letter had been received that said so.
