Peder Olson joined the WI 15th Infantry, Company E. The men of the company called themselves “Odin’s Rifles.”

 The army listed him as living in Greenfield, La Crosse County, WI, born in Norway, age 39, and a farmer. He had hazel eyes, dark brown hair, dark complexion, and stood 5’3”. Olson enlisted for three years on February 26, 1864 at La Crosse, WI, and mustered there the same day as a Private (Menig). He joined Company E in Knoxville, TN. On May 27, 1864, he was killed in the Battle of New Hope Church, GA.
