All classes are held in the Ostby Education Center on the second floor of the NAGC at 415 West Main St., Madison, Wisconsin.  There is no elevator.  NAGC reserves the right to cancel classes due to insufficient enrollment.

Beginning Norwegian Genealogy

If you are just beginning your family history project, or have some experience with family research, but have not worked with Norwegian records, this class is designed for you.  Enrollment Deadline: August 29, 2008
 
Personalized Advanced Genealogy

This is an intensive session with Center researchers for anyone who has hit a brick wall in research in family history and needs additional help.  Individual assistance is for two six-hour days.  Call the Center to make arrangements.  *This course is an advanced, hands-on class, and will be held on the first floor at the NAGC.

This highly interactive workshop is an opportunity to learn about new internet resources that will help you complete your Norwegian and Norwegian-American research in hours that used to take years.  Bring a laptop and begin your research during the workshop, or come and listen to lectures to learn about resources you can access using your public library's internet connection or at specialized libraries in the Midwest.  Genealogical assistants will be on hand to give you individual help and genealogical resources will be available to purchase throughout the day.
The cost is $35 (pre-registration by May 5) and $45 at the door.  Box lunches are available for an additional $10.

The Green Bay "Gronnvik" and Appleton "Norse Valley" Sons of Norway Lodges will hold a joint Syttende Mai program at Apple Creek Inn, 3177 French Rd., De Pere, WI.  5:00pm dinner and 6:00pm program.

Third Annual Norwegian Genealogy Seminar at the Norwegian Language Village, Skogfjorden, Bemidji, Minnesota.
Join us for this Norwegian and Norwegian-American information-filled genealogy seminar.  Among the numerous topics included are a survey of current relevant genealogical resources, with special emphasis on Internet sites in Norway and the United States, including the voluminous digitalarkivet and the historical census records of both countries.  The vast amount of genealogical information in the Norwegian Bygdebøker and the resources of the bygdelags in America are also explored and discussed.
Lectures and workshops on related collateral topics, Norwegian genealogical vocabulary study and the writing of your family story are also presented along with other interesting topics.  Bring your personal Norwegian genealogy records, your research questions and your personal laptop computer.  Skogfjorden is equipped with wireless internet access. 
Featured presenters on Norwegian and Norwegian-American genealogy are Blaine Hedberg, director of the Norwegian American Genealogical Center and Naeseth Library, Madison, WI; John E. Bye, University archivist and curator of the Institute for Regional Studies at North Dakota State University, Fargo, ND; Evonne B. Anderson, retired member of the staff of Concordia College Office of Communications, Moorhead, MN and Elderhosteler instructor for Norwegian languages; and Verlyn D. Anderson, PhD, retired from the dual position of Library Director and Professor of Scandinavian Studies, Concordia College, Moorhead, MN.
